Permeability of Soil


Soil permeability relates to groundwater flow, and is a measurement of continuous void space within a soil medium. Constant head permeameters or falling head permeameter tests may be used to determine the coefficient of permeability of a given soil sample in the lab. Field tests may also be used to estimate permeability, such as the auger hole method. See the chart below for typical values (from Lindeburg):
